The MR01 chair unites traditional craftsmanship with original ideas in a simple form that is at once familiar and yet strikingly modern. The repeating lines of the identical wooden cross bars and the rope seat and backrest cast geometric shadows and intersect each other when viewed from different angles, almost creating optical illusions.The open triangle profile of the frame is constructed without a single screw, relying instead on artisanal cabinet-making techniques such as finger joints and wedged mortise and tenon joints. This approach makes its construction and materiality entirely visible, lending the piece a sense of honesty and highlighting the craftsmanship involved. The chair’s eco-credentials include the use of high quality FSC-certified oak and all natural materials, while the custom-made rope has an ‘anti-deformation’ core that will prevent stretching. It can also be replaced or rewoven, should this become necessary over time, ensuring the chair will last for as long as it is loved. The natural materials will acquire a pleasing patina as they age, making MR01 an enduring and sustainable choice.
