Maehwa Suspension
Maehwa, the Korean word for plum blossom, inspired Giopato & Coombes during a visit to a park in Seoul. Surrounded by people admiring blossoms swaying in the breeze, designers Cristiana and Christopher envisioned the Maehwa collection. The lighting design mirrors nature’s composition—branches filled with buds and blooms—translated into a play of balance, presence, and organic form. Glass spheres, hand-blown using the “a lume” technique, gently diffuse light with a soft, glaze-like finish. Suspended by flexible cables, each sphere evokes a pistil within a closed corolla, creating a luminous, three-dimensional structure that feels delicate, poetic, and emotionally resonant.
